Fourth Arrest Made in Kolkata Law College Alleged Gang-Rape Case

Police today arrested one more suspect in the alleged gang-rape case involving a law girl student in West Bengal government-aided law college in south Kolkata, taking the total number of suspects to four in the crime, official sources said.

Campus security guard Pinaki Banerjee ( 55) was arrested this morning on charges of not helping the sexual assault survivor despite having information about the crime that was committed on the campus on June 25 evening.

Three accused — Manojit Mishra (31), a former student and now ad-hoc staffer; and two others Pramit Mukherjee (20) and Zaib Ahmed (19) — were arrested on Thursday.

The main accused, Mishra, who had been expelled from the college’s Trinamool Congress student wing in 2021, completed his law degree in 2022 but later returned to the campus in a non-teaching role.

Mukherjee, a first-year student, and Ahmed, in his second year, are believed to be close associates of Mishra.
