From 6 to 15 Medical Colleges: Bihar's Healthcare Revolution Under Nitish Kumar

There was a time when Bihar's health system was considered inactive, dilapidated and neglected. It was common to go out of the state for treatment due to limited resources and doctors. But after 2005, the changes that started in the health sector under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have now taken the health services of the state to new heights. Now Bihar is getting ready to provide better health services not only to its people but also to other states. Preparations are underway for world class facilities in Bihar.

Rapid expansion of medical colleges

If the data of the Health Department is to be believed, there used to be only 6 government medical colleges till 2005. But at present, due to the efforts of the government, 11 medical colleges are being operated in about 20 years. Work is going on on four other medical colleges. Very soon the number of medical colleges in Bihar will increase to 15. Let us tell you, the target of the Bihar government is to open medical colleges in almost every district. The state government has prepared a plan to build medical colleges in 9 districts.

Bumper recruitment of doctors

A large number of doctors have been posted in Bihar, which has facilitated primary to high level medical services. Specialist services will also be available in rural areas. 1431 doctors were recruited by the Bihar government this year. 228 doctors were appointed on 31 May. On June 10 itself, 694 senior doctors with PG degree were reinstated. Out of these, bond posting of PG degree holders was done. During the reinstatement, 7468 nurses have been appointed. These medical staff and doctors will prove to be a milestone in improving the condition of the health department in government hospitals.

Recruitment is also to come on these posts

Let us tell you that 4200 posts are to be appointed in Bihar Technical Service Commission. The process of which is going on. Apart from this, preparations are on for the reinstatement of dentists. At the same time, the process of appointment of 1800 assistant professors in the medical college is also in the pipeline. According to government data, 6200 doctors were appointed in 2019.

There will be two AIIMS in Bihar

The condition of health services has improved due to the establishment of AIIMS in the capital. This hospital was approved in 2003. Which is now fully developed and functional. Apart from this, the construction work of AIIMS Darbhanga has also started. Its construction was approved by the government in 2015. 150 acres of land has been identified for this and as soon as the construction is completed, Bihar will become the second state in the country to have two AIIMS.

From self-reliant Bihar to health service exporter Bihar

This success of Bihar is not limited to just figures. After the renovation of PMCH in Patna, it will become a hospital with world class facilities. After this, Bihar will not only treat local patients, but patients from neighboring states like Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal will also be able to come here and get treatment. The way Bihar laid the foundation in the field of health after 2005, today the same foundation has taken the form of a strong building. Now Bihar is not only making itself healthy, but is also getting ready to give life to others.
