Ganga swells across UP, creating flood-like conditions in Varanasi with Manikarnika Ghat fully submerged

Heavy rains across northern India have caused the Ganga River to rise quickly, leading to flood warnings in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Varanasi and Prayagraj.

In Varanasi, the river has surged so much that all 84 ghats are now underwater. To control the rising water, officials have opened 18 gates of the Matatila Dam in Lalitpur and 8 gates of the Govind Sagar Dam.

In Sambhal, the river is flowing at a worrying 177.60 meters, putting about 36 nearby villages at risk. Authorities are keeping a close watch as the situation develops.
