Gurugram Shuts Offices and Schools as IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rainfall

Gurugram has announced the closure of all offices and schools on Tuesday after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall for the region.

The city recorded over 100 mm of rain between 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Monday, prompting the Gurugram District Magistrate to issue an advisory on X (formerly Twitter). “In view of the forecast, all corporate offices and private institutions are advised to allow employees to work from home. All schools in the district are advised to conduct online classes,” the official notice stated.

The weather disruption comes amid widespread rainfall across Delhi-NCR on Monday, which led to waterlogged roads and yet another technical snag for the Delhi Metro. Meanwhile, the Yamuna River remained above the danger mark at Loha Pul.

The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Faridabad, while no specific warning has been issued for Delhi as per the latest district-wise updates on its website.

So far this season, Delhi-NCR has recorded 400.1 mm of rainfall — a 72% surplus over the long-period monthly average of 233.1 mm.
