Guwahati Airport's New Integrated Terminal Opens for Commercial Flights

Guwahati's Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport entered a new chapter today as its newly constructed integrated terminal commenced commercial operations — a landmark addition to Assam's aviation infrastructure and a significant step in cementing the Northeast's connectivity with the rest of India and beyond.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the terminal's operational launch on social media, describing it as more than just an infrastructure milestone. The Chief Minister emphasised that the facility had been built with local participation and symbolised Assam's evolving identity as a key aviation gateway to the northeastern region. Sarma had earlier shared visuals of the terminal, offering a glimpse of its modern passenger amenities and state-of-the-art facilities ahead of the launch.

Officials say the integrated terminal is expected to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve overall operational efficiency — a much-needed upgrade given the rapid growth in air traffic across the region in recent years. Guwahati's airport already serves as the primary aviation hub for the Northeast, linking the city with major urban centres across India as well as select international destinations. The new terminal is designed to accommodate this rising demand while delivering a markedly improved passenger experience.

With Assam increasingly positioning itself as the gateway to the Northeast — for commerce, tourism, and connectivity — the terminal's inauguration represents a tangible step forward in that ambition.
