Harjinder Singh Dhami Re-Elected SGPC President for Fifth Consecutive Term

Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has been re-elected as the President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for the fifth consecutive term.
Dhami, the nominee of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal), secured 117 votes, defeating Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet) candidate Mithu Singh, who received 18 votes by a margin of 99 votes.
Alongside Dhami’s victory, Raghujit Singh Virk was elected as Senior Vice President, Baldev Singh as Junior Vice President, and Sher Singh Mand as General Secretary of the SGPC.
The election began with Dhami proposing to conduct the process through a show of hands, but the request was declined, leading to a formal voting procedure.
Akali Dal spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema hailed Dhami’s win as a “significant achievement,” noting that the decision to nominate Dhami was made unanimously by party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal after consultations with all members.
“It’s a moment of pride that members have once again chosen an honest and dedicated leader,” Cheema said.
He also highlighted that opposition support had further declined since the previous year, when rival candidates had secured 33 votes.
Meanwhile, Mithu Singh said that members who contested against Dhami were also included in the final committee, reflecting a spirit of inclusiveness within the SGPC.
