India Confirms Ceasefire with Pakistan Following Trump’s Announcement: Live Updates

After several tense days along the border, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed on Saturday evening that India has agreed to a ceasefire with Pakistan. The move came after Pakistan reached out to India, with the United States playing a key role in helping both sides come to the table.
Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the agreement on his social media platform, Truth Social. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence,” Trump wrote. “Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Shortly after Trump’s post, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar issued a statement confirming the ceasefire, saying it had taken effect immediately. “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. Pakistan has always strived for peace and security in the region, without compromising on its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Dar said.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs is scheduled to hold a press briefing at 6 PM, where more details are expected.
Just hours before the ceasefire was confirmed, panic spread across Kashmir after an unidentified object crashed into Dal Lake in Srinagar. Loud explosions were heard throughout the Valley, adding to already soaring tensions.
The incident followed a night of intense hostilities. Pakistan carried out heavy artillery shelling and launched multiple drone attacks in Indian border areas on Friday night and into Saturday morning. Several casualties were reported, including Rajouri’s Additional District Commissioner, Raj Kumar Thappa, who was among five killed in the attacks.
On Saturday morning, Pakistan Air Force jets conducted an air raid over Srinagar. Indian armed forces responded swiftly, engaging in what officials described as “effective retaliation.” India’s air defence systems also intercepted several drones during the night.
Friday evening saw explosions in multiple locations across Jammu and Kashmir, as well as in Punjab and Rajasthan. Explosions were reported late Friday in several sensitive areas, including near Srinagar Airport, Samba, Baramulla, Pathankot, Ferozepur, and Barmer. Many of these regions were plunged into darkness amid sudden power outages, adding to the chaos as tensions escalated through the night.
The sudden announcement of a ceasefire felt almost surreal, after nights filled with chaos, explosions echoing through the dark, power cuts, and unanswered questions. For now, the focus is on the Ministry of External Affairs, with the hope that they’ll provide some answers, and maybe a clearer path ahead.
