India Now the World’s Fourth-Largest Economy, Says PM Modi; Sends Strong Message to Pakistan

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday confirmed that India has officially become the world’s fourth-largest economy, overtaking Japan. The announcement follows a statement by NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam, who recently revealed that India’s economy has reached the $4 trillion mark.
"On May 26, 2014, when I took oath as Prime Minister for the first time, India was the 11th largest economy. Today, we have climbed to fourth place. It's a proud moment for every Indian,” Modi said. “I still remember the excitement across the country when we moved from sixth to fifth place, especially among the youth—because we had overtaken the very nation that once ruled us for 250 years, the United Kingdom.”
Subrahmanyam echoed this sentiment during a press briefing after the 10th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog, stating, "We are the fourth largest economy as of now. India is a $4 trillion economy—only the US, China, and Germany are ahead of us." He added that if India continues on its current growth path, it could move up to third place within the next 2.5 to 3 years.
In the same address, PM Modi also delivered a firm message to Pakistan over its continued support of terrorism. Referring to recent developments following Operation Sindoor, he said, “We can’t call this a proxy war anymore. Terrorists who were killed during the operation were given funerals with full state honours in Pakistan—complete with their army’s salute and national flags on their coffins.”
“This proves that what we’re dealing with is not hidden or unofficial—it’s a direct and deliberate war strategy. And to that, India will respond accordingly. We don’t wish for conflict with anyone. We want peace and progress so we can contribute to global welfare,” Modi said.
