India's Creator Economy Powered by 90% 5G Coverage and Digital Infrastructure: IT Minister Vaishnaw

Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today said India's rapidly expanding creator economy is being powered by the country's strong digital infrastructure and skilled population. Speaking during a satellite event of the AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, the Minister highlighted the transformative impact of artificial intelligence across sectors.

Vaishnaw asserted that India's creator economy is rapidly growing and adapting to new technologies and new ways of working. He noted that nearly 90 percent of the country is covered by 5G, making citizens digitally native.

The government is focusing on re-skilling, up-skilling, and creating a new talent pipeline to prepare the workforce for emerging technologies, he added.

Emphasizing the broader implications of artificial intelligence, the Minister highlighted tremendous opportunities in several areas:

  • Agriculture
  • Weather forecasting
  • Climate action
  • New materials discovery
  • Productivity enhancement

However, Vaishnaw cautioned that technology also carries potential risks. "AI will have both positive and negative impacts," he said, adding that the government aims to maximize the benefits of AI while containing the harms.

The Minister said the India AI Impact Summit aims to understand AI's real impact on human society and expressed hope that the deliberations would yield meaningful outcomes.

"Through the summit, India intends to play a leading role in shaping a balanced and responsible AI future," Vaishnaw stated.

The five-day India-AI Impact Summit 2026 at Bharat Mandapam has brought together world leaders from over 20 nations and ministerial delegations from more than 45 countries to discuss global AI cooperation.
