India's First River Ferry Terminal Set to Open in Guwahati

Guwahati Gateway Ghat (GGG), a state-of-the-art terminal located on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River, promises to revolutionize waterway travel in the northeastern state of Assam.

Spearheaded by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and funded by the World Bank, the ambitious project aims to leverage the natural resource of the Brahmaputra River to boost regional connectivity and economic growth.

"The Guwahati Gateway Ghat represents a significant milestone in our efforts to enhance transportation options and accessibility for the people of Assam," Dr. Sarma said in a statement. "By harnessing the power of our mighty Brahmaputra, we are paving the way for sustainable development and increased mobility across the region."

The state-of-the-art terminal, designed and constructed by India's Ports & Waterways teams, boasts an array of amenities, including cafes, a canteen, and accessibility ramps, ensuring a comfortable and convenient experience for passengers.

Guwahati, the largest metropolis in northeastern India, is poised to become a crucial transportation hub with the opening of the GGG. The terminal is expected to cater to the needs of passengers not only from Guwahati but also from neighboring river access points, known as 'ghats,' along the Brahmaputra.

As the region eagerly awaits the inauguration of this transformative project, the Guwahati Gateway Ghat is set to usher in a new era of connectivity and accessibility, promising safe and enjoyable river travel throughout the year.

Officials and transportation experts alike hope that the success of the GGG will pave the way for similar initiatives across India, unlocking the untapped potential of the country's vast network of waterways.
