IndiGo Announces Compensation Up to ₹10,000 for Passengers Hit by December Flight Chaos

IndiGo has announced significant relief for passengers who were stranded at airports for hours during the flight crisis. The airline shared this information on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, October 11.

The post stated that passengers severely affected on December 3, 4, and 5 will receive travel vouchers worth up to ₹10,000 as compensation. These vouchers can be used on any IndiGo flight for the next 12 months.

According to the company, unusual crowding and congestion at several airports during these three days led to long delays, flight disruptions, and significant inconvenience for passengers. The airline expressed regret for this unfortunate experience.

IndiGo acknowledged that its operations were under immense pressure during the first few days of December. Passengers were stranded in airport terminals for hours at several major airports, with the situation being most severe on December 3, 4, and 5. A large number of passengers had their travel plans disrupted and suffered financial and time losses.

This is why the airline decided to offer travel vouchers worth up to ₹10,000 to passengers falling under the 'Severely Impacted' category.

IndiGo's statement: “We want to regain your trust”

In its official statement, IndiGo said it is fully committed to restoring safe, timely, and reliable service. The statement read, “We are grateful for your trust and thank you for the opportunity to serve you again. We strive to rebuild your confidence.”

The company also appealed to passengers who are still facing problems or have not received their refunds to send their booking details to customer.experience@goindigo.in so that they can be assisted immediately.

Passengers to receive compensation of up to ₹10,000, announcement comes after DGCA action

It is worth noting that a large number of IndiGo flights were canceled in the first week of December, causing immense difficulties for passengers. Many people were stranded at the airport for hours, and hundreds of flight cancellations resulted in significant financial losses for them.

As the situation escalated, the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) took strict action against the airline. Following this, IndiGo has now announced relief measures for passengers affected on December 3rd, 4th, and 5th. The company has announced that passengers whose flights were canceled on these three days will receive compensation ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000, in accordance with central government regulations.
