Intoxicated Passenger Allegedly Misbehaves with Crew on IndiGo Delhi-Kolkata Flight, Detained by Security

A passenger on IndiGo flight 6E 6571 from Delhi to Kolkata was handed over to security after allegedly misbehaving with the cabin crew and disturbing fellow travellers during the September 1 flight, the airline said on Wednesday. IndiGo claimed the passenger appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and was declared “unruly” as per aviation protocols.

In a statement, the airline said, “We are aware of an incident of unruly behaviour onboard IndiGo flight 6E 6571 operating from Delhi to Kolkata on 1 September 2025. One of the customers onboard, under the influence of alcohol, was found to be misbehaving with the cabin crew and disturbing fellow passengers. In line with established protocols, the said customer was declared unruly and was handed over to security upon arrival. A formal complaint was also lodged with the relevant authorities."

IndiGo added that it follows a “zero-tolerance policy” toward any form of disruptive or abusive conduct to ensure a safe and respectful environment for both passengers and crew.

However, the accused passenger denied the allegations and has filed a counter-complaint against the airline staff.

### What really happened?

According to reports, tensions flared during the flight, which was delayed on the tarmac in Delhi for nearly three hours due to operational reasons. The passenger, who is reportedly a lawyer, and the crew have both accused each other of inappropriate behaviour.

As per the crew’s version, the passenger boarded the aircraft in an intoxicated state and began encouraging fellow passengers to chant “Har Har Mahadev.” After takeoff, he allegedly tried to conceal a soft drink bottle and was found smelling of alcohol. When questioned, he allegedly drank it hastily. The crew flagged his behaviour as disruptive, and he was handed over to security upon arrival in Kolkata.

The passenger, on the other hand, claimed he was being harassed by the crew. He insisted that his greeting of “Har Har Mahadev” was not meant in any religious or provocative way and denied consuming alcohol during the flight. He admitted to having had a beer at Delhi airport before boarding and said he had the receipt to prove it.

Authorities are now investigating both complaints.
