Jaishankar Dismisses Congress Claim of Alerting Pakistan Before Operation Sindoor as False

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday strongly refuted the Congress party’s allegations that he had "informed" Pakistan prior to India’s cross-border military operation, “Operation Sindoor.” Calling the claims “dishonest” and a clear “misrepresentation of events,” sources familiar with a recent consultative committee meeting in Parliament said Jaishankar urged for national unity on matters of security.
During a meeting, the controversy erupted on cross-border terrorism, where the Congress raised concerns over an alleged prior warning to Pakistan before Indian strikes on terror infrastructure. The claims trace back to comments made by Rahul Gandhi, who accused Jaishankar of admitting that Pakistan was notified in advance of India’s military action.
Gandhi also shared a video clip—undated—in which Jaishankar can be heard saying, “At the start of the operation, we had sent a message to Pakistan, saying, ‘We are striking at terrorist infrastructure and we are not striking at the military. So the military has the option of standing out and not interfering in this process.’ They chose not to take that good advice.”
Reacting sharply, Gandhi called the move a “crime,” questioning who authorized the decision and alleging it may have cost the Indian Air Force aircraft. “Informing Pakistan at the start of our attack was a crime. EAM has publicly admitted that the GOI did it. Who authorised it? How many aircraft did our air force lose as a result?” the Congress leader posted on X.
Jaishankar, during the meeting, emphasized the importance of solidarity, especially as delegations of MPs from various parties are currently briefing foreign governments on India’s stance against cross-border terrorism.
The Ministry of External Affairs has also rejected Gandhi’s claims, stating that they are a gross distortion of the facts. The Press Information Bureau’s (PIB) Fact Check Unit supported this, clarifying that Jaishankar never stated India had informed Pakistan in advance of Operation Sindoor. According to the PIB, the statement was taken out of context and misrepresented.
