Legal Strain Cited as Van Driver Ends Life in Punjab Village

A 50-year-old van driver died by suicide by jumping in front of a train in Nighoan. The incident occurred near Mastipur village this morning, leaving the local community and the deceased's family in shock.
The victim, Bharatlal Gupta, earned a livelihood by driving a private van to support his family.
According to his wife, Gayatri, Bharatlal left home around 6:00 AM, saying he was going to meet a lawyer. However, the family soon received news that his body had been found near a railway track close to Mastipur village.
Officials from the local police station and the Government Railway Police (GRP) arrived at the spot and initiated a preliminary investigation. The body was sent for postmortem examination.
Family members revealed that Bharatlal had been troubled by a legal case stemming from a 2005 road accident in which a child lost their life. The matter had been ongoing in court for several years, causing significant emotional strain.
Last night, local police visited Bharatlal's residence with a court-issued summons related to the case, which reportedly caused him visible anxiety.
Gayatri explained that her husband was deeply concerned about the legal implications and the prolonged nature of the case, which significantly affected his mental well-being. Bharatlal is survived by his wife, three sons, Rishabh, Ayush, and Aditya and a daughter, Sapna.
Authorities stated that further investigation is underway.
