Made-in-India Jet Engine, Sudarshan Chakra in 10 Years: Rajnath Singh Unveils Military Upgrade Plans

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the government’s plans for a significant military upgrade, emphasizing that India’s armed forces can no longer rely on foreign supplies. Speaking at a conclave on Saturday, Singh revealed that over the next ten years, India will implement the Sudarshan Chakra air defence system, which will provide complete aerial security to all key installations across the country. This new system will incorporate both offensive and defensive capabilities to counter emerging security threats.

Singh was in Noida for the inauguration of a private aero-engine test facility by Raphe mPhibr Pvt Ltd, which he described as a strong example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India). He also mentioned that India was preparing to develop its own advanced indigenous aero-engine, with the project now almost ready to begin.

The Defence Minister also highlighted the importance of the Sudarshan Chakra initiative, calling it a "game-changing" development for India’s future security. Singh stressed that modern warfare has drastically changed, with drones now playing a critical role. He pointed out that drones had become an essential part of military strategy worldwide, and India must adapt by integrating them into its own defence policy.

Singh referenced the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, noting how drones have been pivotal in the war. He observed that both sides have used drones extensively, which demonstrates their growing significance in modern combat. "If you closely observe the Russia-Ukraine conflict, you will see how drones have been used continuously, and this highlights the importance of incorporating drones into India's war policy," he said.

He also touched on the evolution of drone technology, noting that while drones were initially used for surveillance, many countries have since developed them for combat. Singh pointed out that nations investing in drone technology now have a clear advantage in warfare, while others have fallen behind. India, which once had to rely on imports for drones, has now begun designing, developing, and manufacturing them domestically.

Reflecting on his experience as Defence Minister, Singh emphasized the crucial role of aircraft technology and drones in modern defence.
