Magh Mela 2026 Begins in Prayagraj; Tourism Department Sets Up Information Centres for Devotees

With the commencement of Magh Mela 2026 from January 3 in Prayagraj, large numbers of devotees from across the country have begun arriving in the Sangam city.
Keeping in mind the scale of the religious gathering and the convenience of devotees, the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has set up four temporary Tourism Information Centres at key locations across the city.
These centres, established at Parade Ground, Nagvasuki Temple, Prayagraj Chhivki Junction railway station and near Arail Ghat, are playing an important role in guiding pilgrims and tourists. Since the start of the Magh Mela, nearly 20 lakh visitors have already availed assistance from these centres.
Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh said on Thursday that with an estimated 12 to 15 crore pilgrims expected during Magh Mela 2026, providing clear, accurate and easily accessible information is a priority.
He said the Tourism Department is ensuring that devotees receive timely guidance related to routes, bathing ghats, accommodation, safety arrangements and city movement.
At the Tourism Information Centres, devotees and tourists are being provided Hindi and English booklets containing details of Prayagraj’s major religious and tourist sites. Sector maps, lists of trained tourist guides, and information related to city travel are also available.
In addition, LED screens installed at the centres are displaying videos and updates related to Magh Mela arrangements, safety advisories, cleanliness drives and important instructions.
The centres are also assisting visitors with information on registered paying guest houses, dharamshalas and other accommodation options, helping pilgrims avoid inconvenience after long journeys.
Jaiveer Singh said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is focused on making Magh Mela 2026 well-organised, safe, clean and pilgrim-friendly.
“Our effort is to ensure that every devotee coming to Prayagraj receives correct information at the right place and time, so that their pilgrimage remains smooth and memorable,” he said.
Principal Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Amrit Abhijat said that Magh Mela is not only a major religious event but also an opportunity to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s cultural heritage and administrative preparedness. He added that all arrangements have been made keeping the convenience of pilgrims at the centre.
Following the global appreciation received for the well-managed Kumbh in 2025, Magh Mela 2026 is now progressing as another example of public-centric planning, effective coordination and focused governance in Prayagraj.
