Mamata and Kejriwal suggest Kharge as the PM face at the INDIA bloc meeting; the Cong chief says, "Let's win first."

NEW DELHI: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was suggested as the opposition INDIA bloc's PM candidate on Tuesday by West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. They claimed Kharge could become the "first Dalit prime minister" of the nation, but no decision was made on the matter.

Following the opposition grouping conference, a number of leaders—including MDMK head Vaiko—confirmed this, stating that Kharge informed them that winning is crucial in order to fortify the alliance and that other matters may be resolved later.

Despite the fact that Kharge was supported by a number of leaders when his name was put out, sources claim that no decision was made on the matter at the meeting.

At a meeting with leaders of 28 opposition groups, Kharge declared, "I work for the downtrodden," following his name being put forth as a potential candidate to become the nation's first Dalit prime minister. Let's triumph first, and then we'll see. I don't look for anything.

"We need to win first; we can decide who will be prime minister afterwards. "We need to gain a majority and strengthen our position before MPs can make a democratic decision," Kharge subsequently stated to reporters when they inquired about whether his nomination as the PM face of the opposition alliance was confirmed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Kharge, was acting "arrogantly" following the recent assembly poll triumph, "as if they will be in power forever."

He said, "We will first try and win unitedly," and that would be the end of it all.

The INDIA bloc's share of seats in the Lok Sabha in 2024 will be overseen by a committee chaired by Kharge, according to sources who added Mamata Banerjee also suggested this.

Nevertheless, this proposal was also left unanswered.

Banerjee had informed reporters that the alliance's prime minister would be chosen following the election when she arrived in the nation's capital on Monday.

"When so many political parties are together, it is a democracy, with different states, different views and different opinions, but ultimately INDIA is a platform where we are fighting together," Banerjee had stated before.

"No one is an ally of the BJP. There is no longer an NDA. That's not who we are. Better yet, we should wait to reveal the PM candidate until after the elections to see the outcomes. That is up for decision by all parties," she had stated.

It is up to you to choose how a party may benefit the people and the nation. The Indian people must come first in your mind. Nobody wants autocracy, which is what's happening right now," she remarked.
