MP Kang Seeks PM’s Intervention Over Fake Video, Demands Stern Action for Insult to Sikh Faith

Chandigarh:Aam Aadmi Party MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib, Malvinder Singh Kang, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding the strictest possible action against BJP leaders accused of circulating a fake and doctored video that allegedly hurt Sikh religious sentiments and attempted to trigger communal disharmony.
In his letter, Kang said forensic reports from the Forensic Science Laboratories (FSL) of Punjab and Delhi have conclusively established that the video was fabricated and maliciously edited to falsely project Delhi’s former Chief Minister Atishi as having made derogatory remarks about Sikh Gurus. The scientific findings, he stated, leave no scope for ambiguity and clearly prove that no such words were ever spoken by her.
Describing the episode as a “calculated and dangerous conspiracy,” the AAP MP accused BJP leader Kapil Mishra of deliberately weaponising Sikh religious sentiments for political gains. “This was not a lapse of judgment or an accidental sharing of misinformation. It was a conscious act of deception aimed at provoking outrage and polarising society,” Kang said.
He termed the misuse of Sikh faith for political mileage as an unforgivable moral crime. “The Sikh Gurus represent sacrifice, truth, and courage. Dragging their sanctity into a web of lies for political ambition strikes at the very core of our values,” he said.
Kang reminded the Prime Minister that the Sikh Gurus laid down their lives not for power or privilege but to uphold Dharma, human dignity, and freedom of conscience. “The Sikh community has always stood as the moral backbone of the nation. It expects justice, not silence, when its faith is attacked,” he wrote.
The MP said the incident was particularly painful as it came at a time when the Sikh community was commemorating the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who sacrificed his life to protect religious freedom. “Such acts, committed during this sacred period, amount to the highest form of moral transgression,” he added.
Appealing to the Prime Minister’s sense of responsibility and leadership, Kang warned that silence or inaction could be interpreted as consent. He urged the Prime Minister to take decisive action against Kapil Mishra, including his removal from all positions of authority and a public denunciation of the act to set an unambiguous example.
“Strong and swift action will send a clear message that the sanctity of the Gurus is non-negotiable and that no political ambition stands above Dharma,” Kang said.
He further stated that timely intervention from the Prime Minister would help restore public faith, deliver justice to the Sikh community, and reaffirm that the ideals for which the Sikh Gurus made supreme sacrifices continue to be safeguarded in modern India.
Reiterating Punjab’s commitment to communal harmony, Kang said the state would not tolerate any attempt to divide society or insult religious beliefs for political gain. “Punjab will always stand for truth, unity, and justice, and will resist every effort to disturb the social fabric of the nation,” he asserted.
