Multiple Drone Attacks in Barmer and Jaisalmer; Missile-Like Debris Discovered

On Friday night, a series of drone attacks targeted Barmer, shortly after India carried out an airstrike on terrorist camps across the border. From 9:00 PM to 5:15 AM, dozens of drones attempted to breach Indian airspace, but each one was swiftly intercepted and destroyed by India’s Air Defense System. The drones were neutralized within an 8-km radius of Barmer city, with the last attack reported just after 5 AM on Saturday.

Barmer’s Superintendent of Police, Narendra Singh Meena, confirmed multiple drone sightings in the district. Around 6:30 AM, District Collector Tina Dabi issued an alert urging residents to stay indoors due to an "incoming air raid by drones." A red alert, initially declared at 9:10 PM, was lifted at 7:02 AM on Saturday.

In the midst of these attacks, a missile-like object was discovered in the Gida area of Balotra, raising concerns in the region. Vikas Kumar, the Inspector General of Police for Jodhpur, confirmed the find, stating, "A suspicious object has fallen in Balotra. We’ve informed the Army and Air Force to help identify it." Authorities have advised people to avoid the area as a safety precaution. The object, which is around 15 feet long, appears to be solid debris, but officials emphasized that there’s no immediate threat. "There’s no need to panic, but we urge people to stay at a safe distance," Kumar said. While the exact location hasn’t been disclosed, the object fell near a populated area.

Meanwhile, in Barmer city, a second suspicious object was found in the Baldev Nagar area. Local residents reported hearing loud sounds and seeing unusual lights in the sky before an object crashed nearby. A local resident, described the scene: "We were on the terrace when we saw flashing lights and heard loud noises. Then an object fell outside our house." Locals mentioned seeing 10-12 illuminated objects flying overhead like lanterns before some of them descended with loud explosions.

The drone attacks in Barmer were similar to an earlier attempt on May 7, when Pakistan targeted the Uttarlai Airbase. Friday night’s wave of drone activity also focused on critical infrastructure, including the oil fields in Nagana, Uttarlai Airbase, Rajwest Power Plant, Jassai and Jalipa military stations, and Barmer itself. On Thursday night, similar drone sightings and interceptions were reported in Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, and Pokhran, with Barmer joining the list of targets on Friday.

In a separate incident in Balotra’s Gida region, residents of Jagaram Ki Dhani reported hearing a loud explosion followed by the crash of a missile-like object. Local police were immediately informed, and military authorities are currently investigating the matter.

In Jaisalmer, drone debris was found after a powerful explosion at dawn. Villagers from Baroda’s Mangliyon Ki Dhani notified the local police, who responded quickly to the scene.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration enforced a complete blackout in Barmer city on Friday night to reduce visibility for incoming drones. Residents were asked to stay inside, and even inverter-powered lights were turned off. Red alerts and sirens sounded every 10–15 minutes, while the Barmer Collector and the Superintendent of Police patrolled various neighborhoods to ensure compliance.
