Mumbai Customs Seize Hydroponic Weed Worth ₹10.5 Crore and Gold Worth ₹23 Lakh in Separate Airport Operations

The Customs authorities at Mumbai international airport made two major seizures in separate operations, recovering hydroponic weed worth approximately Rs 10.50 crore and gold worth Rs 23 lakh from different passengers.
The coordinated operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport led to the interception of individuals arriving from international destinations.
In the first case, Customs officers, acting on specific intelligence, intercepted a passenger arriving from Bangkok. During baggage inspection, officials discovered 10.50 kilograms of suspected hydroponic weed, a high-quality variety of marijuana, concealed inside the passenger’s checked-in trolley bag.
The contraband has an estimated illicit market value of Rs 10.50 crore. The accused was arrested under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are underway to trace the supply network and intended recipients of the drug consignment in Mumbai.
In the second incident, Customs officials intercepted a passenger arriving from Muscat, Oman following a profiling exercise. During a personal search, officers recovered and seized 24-carat crude gold items, one kada and one chain, weighing a total of 200 grams. The gold, worth Rs 23.54 lakh, had been concealed on the passenger’s body.
Both seizures reflect enhanced vigilance by Customs authorities at Mumbai’s international airport to curb smuggling attempts involving narcotics and precious metals through air routes.
