Nagaland Governor La Ganesan Passes Away in Chennai at 78

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan has passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Chennai, according to a PTI report. A Raj Bhavan official confirmed that the sitting governor died late Friday night. He was 78.
Ganesan had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was under close medical supervision for several days. His condition deteriorated after he collapsed at his home in Chennai on August 8 and suffered a head injury. He was rushed to the hospital immediately and had been receiving intensive care since.
Confirming the news, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Kohima Raj Bhavan said the governor breathed his last on Friday night.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief on social media platform X, writing:
**“Pained by the passing of Nagaland Governor Thiru La. Ganesan Ji. He will be remembered as a devout nationalist, who dedicated his life to service and nation-building. He worked hard to expand the BJP across Tamil Nadu. He was deeply passionate about Tamil culture too. My thoughts are with his family and admirers.”**
Nagaland’s Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton also paid tribute on X, stating:
**“Deeply shocked and saddened by the passing of Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland, Shri La. Ganesan Ji. Throughout his journey in public life, he carried himself with dignity, humility, and an unshakeable commitment to the welfare of the people.”**
La Ganesan was appointed as the 21st Governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023, and officially took office on February 20. A veteran leader, he had a long and distinguished career in public service and was known for his commitment to social welfare and cultural values.
