Nitish Kumar Takes Oath as Bihar Chief Minister for Record Tenth Term

Nitish Kumar was today sworn in as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the tenth term, along with several ministers, following a historic victory for the NDA in the recently concluded state assembly elections.

Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan administered the oath to Kumar at a ceremony held at the iconic Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

This marks Kumar’s tenth tenure as Chief Minister since he first assumed office in March 2000. In his initial term, he was unable to secure the required 122-seat majority in the 243-member assembly and resigned after just seven days. He returned as Chief Minister in 2005, heading the NDA government, and has largely remained in office since, except for a brief period of nearly ten months (2014–2015) when Jitan Ram Manjhi served as Chief Minister.

Alongside Chief Minister Kumar, the following leaders took oath as ministers: Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha, Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Shrawan Kumar, Mangal Pandey, Dilip Jaiswal, Bijendra Yadav, Lasy Singh, Madan Sahni, Nitin Naveen, Ram Kripal Yadav, Santosh Kumar Suman, Sunil Kumar, among others.

Other ministers sworn in included Jama Khan, Arun Shankar Prasad, Rama Nishad, Surendra Mehta, Sanjay Tiger, Narayan Prasad, Shrayashi Singh, Lakhendra Kumar Roshan, Pramod Chandravanshi, Sanjay Kumar, and Deepak Prakash.

The ceremony was attended by several national and state leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, union Minister and LJP (RV) President Chirag Paswan, HAM President and union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, RLM President Upendra Kushwaha, as well as Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states such as Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta.
