Odisha Partners with IIT Madras to Launch Real-Time Road Safety Dashboard

The Odisha Government, in collaboration with IIT Madras, is developing a pioneering real-time Road Safety Dashboard, Road Awareness and Traffic Harmony, aimed at building safer roads through data-driven strategies and community participation.

The State has undertaken several landmark initiatives, including the monthly observance of Zero Accident Day (ZAD), the Come Home Safe campaign, deployment of the “Surakhya” mascot for community engagement, and technical capacity-building programmes in partnership with premier institutions like IIT Madras.

The new Dashboard will unify these efforts under a single, data-powered platform to enhance impact. The initiative was the focal point of a high-level meeting held today chaired by Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport Department, Usha Padhee. Designed as a comprehensive digital solution, the Dashboard will provide real-time data, analytics, and visual insights to enable proactive road safety interventions.

It will serve as a central platform for both policymakers and citizens, bridging technology with public participation. A key feature of the Dashboard is the citizen-centric module “Sahayaka”, which will allow individuals to report road accidents, thereby reducing emergency response times.

Citizens will also be able to nominate “Raahveers”,local heroes and first responders who promote road safety at the grassroots level.

Official sources said the integration with platforms such as the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) and eDAR-CCTNS is nearing completion.

IIT Madras is also embedding its “Sanjaya” Road Safety Super App into the Dashboard ecosystem, making it a one-stop solution for all road safety stakeholders in the State.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility, and this Dashboard is a major leap forward in using real-time data, citizen input, and institutional coordination to save lives,” Padhee said.

“It reflects our commitment to creating a safer, more responsive transport ecosystem in Odisha, she added.”

The meeting concluded with a joint resolution from all participating stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of the Dashboard and work together to make Odisha’s roads safer.

The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur, IG Crime Branch Sarthak Sarangi, and other senior officials.
