PM Modi Inaugurates ₹3,030-Crore Kumar Bhaskar Verma Setu in Guwahati, Calls Northeast India’s ‘Ashtalakshmi’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kumar Bhaskar Verma Setu, a 6-lane extradosed bridge over the Brahmaputra River, while addressing a massive public gathering in Guwahati, Assam.
Built at a cost of approximately ₹3,030 crore, this state-of-the-art bridge will reduce travel time between Guwahati and North Guwahati to approximately 7 minutes. The bridge utilizes earthquake-resistant base isolation technology.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in his speech that he would return the love shown to him by the people of Assam in the form of "development with interest." Describing BJP workers as the party's strength, he said that organization is the real force for change.
Accusing the Congress party of neglecting the health infrastructure, the Prime Minister said that in 2014, there were only six AIIMS in the country, while now there are more than 20. He also mentioned the expansion of medical colleges and new health schemes in Assam. Under the recently approved PM Relief Scheme, road accident victims will receive free treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh.
The PM said that 3G and 4G were introduced during the Congress regime, but did not reach the Northeast in time. His government worked to bring 5G to every village. He described the launch of a data center and semiconductor plant in Assam as a major opportunity for the youth.
He said, "Like Assamese tea, chips made here will also earn a name for themselves globally."
The Prime Minister stated that after 2014, the BJP government built five major bridges on the Brahmaputra, while only three bridges were built during the 70 years of the Congress regime. He said that the pace of development in Assam has accelerated due to the double-engine government.
At the rally, PM Modi accused the Congress of appeasement and vote-bank politics. He said that today's Congress is incapable of taking decisions in the national interest. Referring to the anniversary of the Pulwama attack, he reiterated his call for strict action against terrorism.
He said that Congress has become even more toxic after being out of power for 10 years. Congress wants to plunge Assam back into unrest and anarchy. Congress... wants to hand over Assam to infiltrators.
Congress wants to erase Assam's true identity. The coming five years are crucial for Assam. During this period, many projects are set to be completed that will give Assam's growth new wings. Therefore, a double-engine BJP government is once again essential here.
The Prime Minister described the Northeast as "Ashtalakshmi" (the eight-headed state of Assam). He said that the central government has allocated more than ₹5.50 lakh crore to Assam for development projects. There has also been a significant increase in tax share. He said that connectivity increases employment, and this year's budget has a special focus on the Northeast.
The Prime Minister said that we live by one mantra, and we are devoting ourselves to making that mantra a reality.
That mantra is – Bharat Mata ki Jai!
