PM Modi Marks 25 Years in Public Office, Expresses Gratitude to People of India

Expressing gratitude to the people of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today marked the beginning of his 25th year in public office, recalling his journey from the Chief Ministership of Gujarat to the helm of the nation.

“On this day in 2001, I took oath as Gujarat’s Chief Minister. Thanks to the continuous blessings of my fellow Indians, I now enter my 25th year in public service. My deep gratitude to the people of India,” he wrote in a post on X.

Sharing a photograph from his first swearing-in ceremony in 2001, Modi said the responsibility came during a period of adversity, when Gujarat was reeling from the impact of a devastating earthquake, along with earlier droughts and political instability.

“I accepted the responsibility in testing circumstances: the state facing the aftermath of a massive earthquake, along with prior droughts and instability. Those challenges strengthened my resolve to rebuild Gujarat with hope and service.”

He also recalled the values instilled by his mother on that day, words that continue to shape his political philosophy.

“I recall my mother’s words at the time, ‘always work for the poor and never take a bribe.’ I assured people that whatever I undertake will be with good intent, aiming to serve even the one at the end of the queue.”

Reflecting on the transformation of Gujarat during his tenure, Modi said the state, once considered drought-prone and suffering from agricultural distress, had emerged as a model of good governance.

He noted that Gujarat’s journey from water and power shortages to agricultural productivity and industrial growth was made possible through collective efforts.

Turning to his entry into national politics, the Prime Minister said his nomination as the BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate in 2013 came at a time when the country was facing a crisis of confidence.

“In 2013, amid distrust and governance crisis, I was nominated as the Prime Ministerial candidate. The people’s verdict gave our alliance a strong majority, and ushered in a new chapter.”

“Over 11 years, we have walked this path together. We have empowered our people — women, youth, farmers — and lifted more than 25 crore out of poverty. India is now seen as a growing global presence.”

Modi said the country’s achievements over the last decade include significant social reforms, economic resilience, and a renewed sense of purpose. He pointed to India's global standing and emphasis on self-reliance, particularly through the “Garv Se Kaho, Yeh Swadeshi Hai” movement.

Reaffirming his commitment to the nation, he said the trust placed in him by the people remains his greatest strength.

“I again thank the people for their trust and affection. It is my highest honour to serve this nation. With our Constitution as my guide, I will strive harder to realise the dream of Viksit Bharat.”
