PM Modi to Meet Xi Jinping on August 31 During SCO Summit in China

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to meet in Tianjin, China, on August 31, on the sidelines of the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit. This will mark their first meeting in nearly a year—their last interaction was in October 2024, when both countries announced progress in resolving the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
During his visit to China for the summit, PM Modi is also expected to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and leaders from several Central Asian countries.
Just last month, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited China—his first trip there since relations between the two nations deteriorated in 2020. While in China, Jaishankar met President Xi and conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar wrote, “Apprised President Xi of the recent development of our bilateral ties. Value the guidance of our leaders in that regard.”
The upcoming meeting between Modi and Xi is expected to draw significant global attention, given the ongoing efforts to stabilize India-China relations.
