Police Must Uphold Integrity and Discipline, Says Nitish Kumar at SI Passing-Out Parade

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday directed the police to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and discipline in view of their vital role in maintaining law and order in society.

Addressing the passing-out parade of trainee Sub-Inspectors at the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, Nalanda district, Kumar said here that the police''s role towards security was important and they should discharge their responsibilities with integrity.

The Chief Minister also inspected the parade in an open jeep, took the salute, and encouraged the newly trained officers.

Addressing the trainees, Nitish Kumar said they had undergone quality training and expressed confidence that they would discharge their duties with honesty, sensitivity, dedication, and discipline. He underlined that public trust in the police is essential for maintaining peace and order.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister presented awards to the trainees for outstanding performances. Ankit Kumar was awarded Best Probationer Overall and Best Probationer Indoor, Rupesh Kumar received the Best Probationer Outdoor award, while Meena Kumari was honoured as Best Probationer Parade Commander.

The trainee Sub-Inspectors were administered the oath during the ceremony. Flag bearers marched with the national flag and the academy flag.

Bihar Police Academy Director R. Malar Vizhi welcomed the Chief Minister who inspected the academy campus. Officials informed him that the state government has approved the acquisition of an additional 22 acres of land for the expansion of the academy. The additional land will be used to construct new administrative buildings, a parade ground, residential quarters for officers, and other facilities.

A total of 1,218 Sub-Inspectors from the 2023 batch, including 436 women, have completed their basic training. For the first time, three transgender Sub-Inspectors have also been trained. All the officers will be posted across various districts after completion of training.

The Bihar Police Academy was set up in 2008 on the instructions of the Chief Minister, with 133 acres of land allotted in Rajgir. It provides training to Indian Police Service officers, Bihar Police Service officers, and Sub-Inspectors.

The academy has modern facilities including administrative and training buildings, a library, a regional forensic science laboratory, officers’ messes, residential quarters, a swimming pool, and a parade ground. A conference hall with a capacity of 1,100 people is under construction and is expected to be completed soon. Barracks and classrooms are also being built to accommodate 4,000 constables.
