President Murmu Orders Major Governor Reshuffle; RN Ravi Sent to West Bengal, CV Ananda Bose Quits

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday ordered a sweeping reshuffle of Governors and Lieutenant Governors across eight states and Union Territories, setting off a significant chain of transfers that touches some of India's most politically sensitive regions — from West Bengal and Maharashtra to Bihar and Delhi.
The most politically consequential move sees Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi transferred to West Bengal, where President Murmu simultaneously accepted the resignation of incumbent Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose — whose tenure at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata had been marked by persistent friction with the Mamata Banerjee-led state government. Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been given additional charge of Tamil Nadu in the interim.
Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has been appointed Governor of Telangana, while Telangana's outgoing Governor Jishnu Dev Varma moves to Maharashtra. Former Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav takes charge as Governor of Nagaland, and Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain — a decorated military officer with extensive experience in Jammu and Kashmir — has been appointed Bihar's new Governor.
In a notable appointment for the national capital, former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu — India's former Ambassador to the United States — has been named Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, replacing Vinai Kumar Saxena, who moves to Ladakh as its new Lieutenant Governor. Ladakh's outgoing LG Kavinder Gupta, in turn, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
The transfers span states in active political flux — Bihar is navigating a post-Nitish Kumar transition, Maharashtra is in coalition politics, and West Bengal remains one of India's most contested political arenas. The simultaneous nature of the reshuffle suggests a carefully coordinated recalibration of the Centre's gubernatorial strategy across these key states.
