Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Likely to Be Discharged Today After Health Improves

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to be discharged from hospital today, following significant improvement in his health, sources said.

Medical tests conducted on the Chief Minister have returned normal results, signaling a positive recovery.

Mann was admitted to a hospital in Chandigarh on September 5 after experiencing symptoms of low heart rate and weakness. His condition led to the cancellation of a planned visit to flood-affected areas in Punjab.

The Chief Minister had been actively touring flood-hit regions prior to his hospitalization, including a visit to Ferozepur, where he traveled by boat to reach isolated villages.

Despite his health challenges, Mann continued to oversee official duties from the hospital. On September 8, he participated in a cabinet meeting via video conferencing and shared a video message outlining key decisions, assuring the public of his imminent return to public life.

Yesterday, Mann held a video call with Punjabi singer Mankirt Aulakh and Hanspal Traders’ owner Preetpal Singh Hanspal, commending their efforts in aiding flood-affected communities.

The duo had mobilized over 150 boats to assist in rescuing people and livestock stranded by the floods. Mann, representing the Punjab government, expressed gratitude for their commendable work.

The Chief Minister’s hospitalization did not deter visitors, with several prominent figures meeting him over the past week. On September 4, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal visited Mann at his residence. Following his admission to the hospital, Mann was visited by party leader Manish Sisodia, Punjab ministers Harpal Singh Cheema and Aman Arora, and other leaders on September 6.

His mother was among the first to visit him. On September 8, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Saini met Mann, followed by Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on September 10, accompanied by Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and DGP Gaurav Yadav.

Mann’s absence was notably felt during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Punjab on September 9, where he was unable to participate due to his health.

However, the Prime Minister inquired about Mann’s condition through Governor Kataria, who later visited the Chief Minister in the hospital.

In a light-hearted moment during his video call with Mankirt Aulakh, Mann asked about his well-being, to which the singer responded with the spirited Punjabi phrase, “Chardhi Kala” (high spirits).
