Punjab, Himachal on Red Alert After Deadly Explosion Near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station

Following the deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort Metro Station that claimed several lives, Punjab has been placed on red alert with heightened security measures across all districts.
Police commissioners and senior superintendents of police have been directed to remain vigilant, while additional personnel have been deployed in sensitive and crowded areas.
Security checks on vehicles and individuals have been intensified at key points, including railway stations, bus terminals, and markets. Authorities have appealed to citizens to report any suspicious activity or unattended objects immediately to the police. Security agencies are said to be monitoring the situation closely. Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh have also been put on high alert.
Himachal Pradesh DGP Ashok Tiwari has instructed police forces in border districts to strengthen vigilance and conduct strict checks on vehicles entering the state.
All district SPs have been directed to maintain high alert, particularly along inter-state entry points. The DGP has also ordered enhanced security at major temples and religious sites, while police station heads and outpost officers have been asked to remain on standby.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called for a high-level probe into the Delhi blast. In a message on X, Mann said the tragic loss of lives was heartbreaking and that those responsible should face strict punishment. He extended condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Shiromani Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal termed the blast a cowardly act aimed at spreading fear and unrest in the country. She said the attack must be met with determination and unity, expressing her condolences to the bereaved families and wishing recovery for those injured.
Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also condemned the incident, calling it extremely painful and tragic. He said innocent lives had been lost and prayed for strength for the families and healing for the injured.
Aam Aadmi Party leader and ex Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal described the explosion as deeply concerning and urged citizens to maintain peace and unity in the face of such acts. He said the strongest answer to terror and fear lies in collective solidarity.
Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring expressed shock over the car blast, calling it both tragic and alarming. He said the safety of citizens must remain the top priority and urged the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and identify those responsible at the earliest.
Meanwhile, police in Punjab have increased patrols, set up additional checkpoints, and intensified surveillance across the state as precautionary measures.
