Punjab Nears Completion of Massive Livestock Vaccination Drive

More than 58.93 lakh animals in the state have received vaccinations against Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS), according to Punjab Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development, and Fisheries Minister S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian. He also instructed department officials to vaccinate the entire livestock population of 65,47,407 (which consists of 25,31,460 cows and 40,15,947 buffaloes) against the contagious diseases by June 30.
S. Gurmeet Singh Khudian urged livestock farmers to make the most of this campaign to protect animals from deadly and life-threatening diseases, stating that the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, is dedicated to the welfare of livestock farmers and that instructions have been given to all field staff members to ensure that no animal is left without vaccination because these illnesses reduce milk production and the ability of animals to work.
During the drive, the Cabinet Minister reported that 85.3% of animals had received the HS vaccination thus far, and over 90% of cattle had received coverage against FMD. According to him, any livestock farmer can get vaccinated by contacting their local veterinary institute. Both vaccines are offered at all veterinary clinics in the state. He made it clear to the field workers that they would not put up with any carelessness during the vital immunization campaign.
