Punjab Police, BSF Tighten Border Security Against Drugs and Arms Smuggling

Punjab's Director General of Police (DGP) addressed a press conference in Amritsar today, outlining enhanced security measures to combat drug and arms smuggling along the border.

The DGP revealed that a high-level meeting involving police, Border Security Force (BSF) and senior officials was held to strengthen efforts against cross-border trafficking of narcotics and small arms.

The DGP highlighted the Amritsar police's proactive operations, which have led to the seizure of substantial heroin consignments. A new mobile application was introduced to enable citizens to anonymously report information about drugs or criminal activities, with assurances of complete confidentiality for informants.

The DGP accused Pakistan’s ISI of orchestrating attempts to destabilize Punjab by smuggling heroin and small arms via drones, intended to fuel crime in the state. However, advanced anti-drone systems have significantly disrupted these efforts, the DGP noted.

Addressing rising incidents of extortion calls, the DGP stated that most are traced to local criminals and urged the public to promptly report such incidents to the police. Commending the collaborative efforts of the Amritsar police and BSF, the DGP emphasized their vigilance in monitoring criminal activities.

“Pakistan aims to ensnare Punjab’s youth in the grip of drugs, but we will not let their plans succeed,” the DGP declared. Appealing to the youth, the DGP urged them not to fall prey to the influence of overseas criminals and to avoid a path that could ruin their future.

The Punjab Police remain on high alert, committed to thwarting cross-border conspiracies, the DGP affirmed.
