Punjab Police Crack Down on Drugs: 113 Smugglers Held, 2kg Heroin Seized

In a massive operation on the 92nd day of the anti-drug campaign "Yudh Nashian Virudh", Punjab Police arrested 113 drug smugglers and recovered a significant haul of narcotics, including 2.09 kg of heroin, 530 grams of opium, and over 32,000 intoxicant pills. The police also seized ₹1.8 lakhs in drug money.
The operation, conducted simultaneously in all 28 police districts, was carried out on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav. The state government has vowed to make Punjab a drug-free state, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann instructing top officials to take stringent action against drug smugglers.
According to Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla, over 200 police teams, comprising 1,400 personnel, conducted raids at 461 locations, leading to the registration of 83 FIRs. The police also checked 382 suspicious persons during the operation.
As part of the state's three-pronged strategy to combat drugs, which includes enforcement, de-addiction, and prevention, the police convinced 92 individuals to undergo de-addiction and rehabilitation treatment.
In a separate operation, police teams checked 106 pharmaceutical shops in five districts to ensure they were not selling habit-forming drugs and were adhering to prescribed norms.
With this operation, the total number of drug smugglers arrested has reached 14,944 in just 92 days, highlighting the state's commitment to eradicating the drug menace.
