Punjab Revenue Minister Directs Overhaul of Dept Operations, Faster Public Grievance Redressal

In a meeting with the department's senior brass today, Punjab's Minister of Revenue, Rehabilitation, and Disaster Management, Bram Shanker Jimpa, gave the officers instructions to completely overhaul the department's operational procedures. He said that in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, field officers, such as patwaris, qanungos, naib teshsildars, and teshsildars, would have to report to work every day at a set time to meet with the public, hear their complaints, and make sure the general public is assisted. Signboards outside their offices are also required to show the information to this effect. He requested that directives be issued at the department level shortly by the departmental officers.

He added that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has once again requested that Jan Lok Adalats be resumed throughout the State following the success of the special camps that were organized this year on January 6 and 15 to resolve the matters pertaining to outstanding mutations. In addition to considering their proposals, Jimpa promised to personally visit these Adalats, listen to the people's complaints, and attempt to immediately address the issues raised. He also revealed that additional special camps would be held in order to rid the impending mutations. Remarkably, 50796 cases with awaiting mutations were resolved in the previous camps.

The Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's helplines, 8184900002 and 9464100168 (NRIs), were used to report grievances, and the Revenue Minister reviewed them during the meeting. He was informed that 3064 of the 4387 complaints submitted up until June 13th, 2024, had been handled. The Minister declared that there would be no room for laxity in resolving the complaints on both numbers and that they must be resolved promptly. He went on to say that he will shortly review this work once a week.

In addition, Jimpa assessed the amount of cash allotted for the construction or restoration of new Tehsils, Sub Tehsils, and S.D.M. complexes. He commanded that these structures be of the highest caliber in accordance with the directives of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He also underlined the need of providing all services to the public under one roof. He also gave the officers instructions to make sure the owners of the lands that were taken over for development projects received prompt and complete compensation.
