Railways Adds 116 Coaches, Runs Special Trains as Flight Cancellations Leave Passengers Stranded

Passengers across the country are facing difficulties due to the massive flight cancellations of many airlines including IndiGo. Meanwhile, Indian Railways has decided to take immediate steps to run additional trains, start special services and increase coaches on many routes, so that people can easily reach their destinations.
According to the Ministry of Railways, 116 additional coaches have been added in 37 trains across the country, due to which 114 additional trips will be run. In view of the increasing crowd of commuters from Ahmedabad to Delhi, the Western Railway has announced a superfast special train between Sabarmati-Delhi. This train will be run under 'Train on Demand' (TOD).
Train number 09497 (Sabarmati–Delhi Special) will run on December 7 and 9, while 09498 (Delhi–Sabarmati Special) will run on December 8 and 10. This train will stop at major stations like Mahesana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Ajmer, Jaipur, Alwar, Rewari, Gurgaon and Delhi Cantt. AC 3-tier coaches have been installed in the train and ticket booking has started from December 6.
Southern Railway has added chair cars and sleeper coaches in 18 trains, while Northern Railway has added 3 AC and chair cars in 8 trains. Similarly, Western Railway has installed additional AC coaches in 4 trains, so that the journey from Western India to Delhi can be made easier. Apart from this, East-Central, East Coast, Eastern and North East Frontier Railways have also increased the capacity by adding additional coaches in many important trains.
Railways has also provided options like Gorakhpur-Anand Vihar Special, New Delhi-Jammu Vande Bharat, New Delhi-Mumbai Superfast from December 7 to 9 and Hazrat Nizamuddin-Thiruvananthapuram one-way special in December.
The Railways says that these decisions will give passengers a better option for safe, timely and economical travel, especially when many flights are being cancelled.
