Rainfall in the country in August broke the record for the last 23 years. While the heat broke the 123-year-old record. The Meteorological Department said on Saturday that India recorded about 16 percent more rainfall than normal in August, while 253.9 mm of rainfall was recorded in North-West India. Which is the second highest rainfall in August after the year 2001.

IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mahapatra said that the country recorded 287.1 mm of rainfall in August, while the normal is 248.1 mm. Overall, India has received 749 mm of rainfall as against the normal 701 mm since the beginning of the monsoon season on June 1.

He also said that the heat during the monsoon season in the country also broke the 123-year-old record. The IMD said that the average minimum temperature in India in August was recorded at 24.29 degrees Celsius, which is the highest since 1901.

The IMD chief said that many districts in the foothills of the Himalayas and the Northeast received below-normal rainfall as most of the low-pressure systems moved south from their normal position. He said that many states in the Northeast along with Kerala and the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra received deficient rainfall.

The Meteorological Department said that heavy to very heavy rains are likely over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in September. Heavy rains may also occur in the adjoining areas of these states.

Heavy rains are expected in various parts of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. A Meteorological Department official said that light to moderate rains will continue continuously. According to the Meteorological Department, the sea condition is expected to remain rough on Saturday along the coasts of North Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha. Meanwhile, the Central Water Commission (CWC) has warned that most of the rivers in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are likely to overflow in the next two days.
