Rekha Gupta Distributes 5,100 Free LPG Connections Under Ujjwala Yojana in Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday distributed free gas connections to eligible women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana at an event organised at Thyagaraj Stadium. A total of 5,100 eligible women were provided with LPG cylinders along with the complete Ujjwala kit.

Gupta said the state government's initiative marks a step towards women’s empowerment, health security and environmental protection.

In her address on the occasion, the CM said the scheme is not limited to providing gas connections alone, and rather it is a powerful campaign that brings the light of dignity, health and cleanliness into the lives so many women.

Gupta noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the scheme, launched in 2014, has benefited over 10 crore families across the nation, and in Delhi alone, approximately 2.6 lakh families have already benefited from it.

The CM said that by providing Ujjwala connections to 5,100 women, another important step has been taken towards making their lives safer, cleaner and more dignified.

MP Bansuri Swaraj, Delhi Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and several others were also present on the occasion.

Gupta said the Delhi government remains committed to women’s empowerment and safeguarding their health, and the objective is to ensure that every eligible woman receives the benefits of the Ujjwala scheme.

She said the distribution of LPG connections is yielding dual benefits for the pollution control mission: on one hand, women will get relief from illnesses caused by smoke from traditional stoves, and on the other, the clean fuel will lead to a significant reduction in indoor pollution.

Speaking on the occasion , minister Sirsa stated that the Ujjwala Yojana has brought a transformation in the lives of crores of women across the country, as the domestic pollution caused by burning firewood, kerosene and biomass is not only harmful to health, but also detrimental to the environment.

By promoting clean fuel through the scheme, kitchens are being made pollution-free, which is a concrete step towards the goal of a ‘pollution-free Delhi,’ he added.
