Republic Day 2026 Rehearsals: Delhi Police Issue Traffic Advisory, Roads to See Closures and Diversions

Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of Republic Day 2026 rehearsals, warning commuters of road closures, diversions and heavy congestion across several parts of the city. People travelling daily through central Delhi are advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra travel time.
Public access to Rashtrapati Bhavan will remain restricted from January 21 to January 29, 2026.
To ease movement during the rehearsal period, commuters travelling north–south or east–west are advised to use Ring Road via Sarai Kale Khan and the IP Flyover towards Rajghat. These routes are expected to remain the most reliable alternatives.
For those heading towards Ring Road, alternate options include Lajpat Rai Marg via Mathura Road and Bhairon Road. Depending on destinations, roads such as Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road and Kamal Ataturk Marg can also be used.
For east–west travel, two-wheeler and four-wheeler commuters can take Ring Road via Bhairon Road and Mathura Road, moving towards Subramaniam Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg and Prithvi Raj Road. From there, they can continue via Safdarjung Road and Kamal Ataturk Marg towards Panchsheel Marg, Simon Bolivar Marg, Upper Ridge Road or Vande Mataram Marg.
Commuters travelling between East Delhi and Southwest Delhi during rehearsal days are advised to take Ring Road via Vande Mataram Marg. This route helps avoid the core parade zone around Kartavya Path and nearby government offices, allowing for smoother traffic flow.
For travel from South Delhi to Connaught Place and the Central Secretariat, Delhi Police has suggested multiple routes. One option is via Mother Teresa Crescent through Park Street, leading to Mandir Marg or Baba Kharak Singh Marg. Another is via Ring Road through Vande Mataram Marg and Link Road, which connects to Panchkuian Road.
Alternatively, commuters can use Ring Road and Sardar Patel Marg towards 11 Murti, continue via Mother Teresa Crescent and the RML roundabout, and then head towards North Avenue or Baba Kharak Singh Marg.
Delhi Police has urged commuters to factor in additional travel time, especially during late morning and early afternoon hours when most diversions will be in place. Those with fixed schedules, including office-goers and air travellers, have been advised to avoid non-essential travel during peak rehearsal hours.
