Roof Collapse at Dargah Near Humayun's Tomb in Delhi Leaves Five Dead

At least five people have died following the collapse of a roof at a dargah near Humayun's Tomb in Delhi’s Nizamuddin area on Friday. The incident occurred during Friday prayers as heavy rains lashed the city.

According to Delhi Police and hospital officials, nine people were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre after the collapse. Tragically, five of them—three women and two men—were declared dead. The victims have been identified as two men aged 79 and 35, and three women aged 42, 40, and 40, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast).

Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain confirmed that the collapse happened while people were sitting inside a room at the Dargah Sharif Patte Shah. “So far, we have learned that five people under treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre have died, and others are still being treated. We have cordoned off the area,” he told reporters.

Emergency teams from Delhi Police, Fire Services, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) quickly arrived at the scene after a distress call was received. Rescue operations have since concluded.

Officials said that 10 to 12 people were pulled from the debris. According to ANI, 11 people were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, including AIIMS and Lok Nayak Hospital, for treatment.

Authorities continue to investigate the incident, which appears to have been triggered by the ongoing monsoon rains.
