Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary met Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Thursday and held discussions on the state’s development agenda, law and order and major infrastructure projects.

Posting a few photographs of the meeting on X, Amit Shah said the people of Bihar have given the NDA a massive mandate. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the NDA government would work with greater strength to ensure good governance and build a “developed Bihar.”

Samrat Choudhary said, “After the NDA’s massive victory in Bihar, I paid a courtesy visit today in New Delhi to Home Minister Amit Shah and received important guidance.”

The meeting is being viewed as politically significant, as the BJP has received its biggest mandate ever in Bihar, emerging as the largest party with 89 seats, while the NDA won 202 out of 243 seats. The inclusion of 14 BJP ministers in the new cabinet further underscores the party’s growing influence and responsibility.

With Samrat Choudhary appointed as the new Home Minister of the state, the BJP now has direct oversight of law and order in the state. The move signals a clear shift within the NDA government and indicates that the BJP is moving closer to the driver's seat in Bihar.

During the election campaign, the ruling NDA repeatedly targeted the previous 15-year rule of Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, labelling it “Jungle Raj.” Amit Shah had assured voters that the new NDA government would not allow Bihar to slip into lawlessness again.

Acting on Amit Shah’s assurance, soon after taking charge of the Home Ministry, Samrat Choudhary announced a zero-tolerance policy against crime, mafia activities, and harassment of women. “Criminals will have to leave Bihar,” he said in his first media interaction.

Since then, the state government has launched a major crackdown on organised crime.

DGP Vinay Kumar said on Wednesday that proposals to seize properties of 400 mafia members and criminals had already been sent to the court. Another list of more than 1,200 individuals is being prepared, whose assets will also be seized once court orders are issued. The list includes sand and land mafia, liquor contractors, contract killers, and other offenders.
