Severe Cold Wave Grips Rajasthan as Mount Abu Records Season’s Lowest at –7°C

Following a storm, rain, and hailstorm, the weather in Rajasthan has taken a sudden turn. The cold has intensified from the hilly areas to the plains. The temperature in Mount Abu, the state's only hill station, dropped to minus 7 degrees Celsius on Friday night, the lowest recorded temperature of the season. On Saturday morning, a thick layer of snow was seen at various places in Mount Abu, disrupting life completely.
The cold wave's impact wasn't limited to the hilly areas. Images of frozen fields in Sikar, in the Shekhawati region, have emerged, raising concerns among farmers. Daytime temperatures have dropped to 10 degrees in most parts of the state. Cold winds have been blowing since morning in several districts, including Jaipur, Dausa, and Alwar, intensifying the chill.
According to the Meteorological Center, the weather is expected to remain clear in the state on January 24th and 25th, but there is little chance of any relief from the cold. Meanwhile, a new Western Disturbance is expected to become active on January 26th and 27th, leading to the possibility of dense fog and thunderstorms in many areas.
On Friday, rain fell in more than 10 districts of Rajasthan, while hail also fell in several places. This directly affected the temperature, leading to a sharp drop both day and night. The snowfall in the mountains reached the plains, causing icy winds to lash most districts of the state from Saturday morning.
Fear of crop damage due to freezing snow and extreme cold is also being expressed. On Friday, maximum temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius were recorded in approximately 15 cities, including Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Barmer. The coldest daytime temperature was recorded in Sirohi, where the maximum temperature was only 14.8 degrees Celsius. This change in weather has further intensified the cold across Rajasthan.
