SIT Probe Demanded into the Murder of Lalit Narayan Mishra

New Delhi: On the occasion of the 103rd birth anniversary of former Railway Minister Lalit Narayan Mishra, a programme held at the Constitution Club here saw former Union Minister of State Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, the chief guest, urging Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to order an SIT (Special Investigation Team) probe into Mishra’s brutal assassination in Samastipur in 1975. He said the truth must be uncovered and justice delivered to Mishra’s family and to the people of Bihar. He also appealed to the Supreme Court to ensure speedy justice to the victim’s side in this case, which has been pending for over fifty years.


The special lecture series organised on Mishra’s birth anniversary was also addressed by senior politicians Devesh Chandra Thakur and Naveen Sinha, senior journalist S. Bhattacharya, and Jammu & Kashmir educationist Vijay Sridhar.

A message from former Governor Nikhil Kumar, focused on Lalit Babu, was read out.

The event was conducted by Advocate Vaibhav Mishra and Varalika Mishra.

Recalling a memoir on the occasion, former minister Ashwini Kumar Chaubey said that during the student movement, Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan had told them that Lalit Babu would soon join the movement. Soon after this announcement by JP, Lalit Babu was removed from the political landscape of India.


In his lecture, S. Bhattacharya stated that through litchi trade, Lalit Babu established the name of Bihar on the global trade map and played a significant role in strengthening India’s position in the WTO. As Railway Minister, he also popularised Madhubani painting through the Jayanti Janata Express train.

On this occasion, Devesh Chandra Thakur said that Lalit Babu had a visionary ability to recognise talent.

Other speakers highlighted his multifaceted personality. Leaders from various political parties, along with intellectuals from Delhi and Bihar, attended the event in large numbers.
