Son of former MP found dead in Udaipur library; police suspect suicide

The son of a former Member of Parliament was found dead at a local library in Udaipur on Saturday morning, in what police suspect may be a case of suicide.
The 40-year-old man owned the library, a place where students often came to study, said Mukesh Soni, the station house officer (SHO) of Ambamata police station. “Around 7 a.m., when students arrived as usual and called out to him but got no response, they went inside an inner room and found him lying unconscious on the floor,” Soni added.
The police arrived at the scene, collected evidence, and sent the body to MB Hospital for a postmortem examination. “The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the medical report,” Soni said.
He also mentioned that a piece of towel was found hanging from a hook on the ceiling, which raised suspicions that the man might have attempted to hang himself but the knot may have come loose. The investigation is ongoing.
The deceased’s father had passed away during the pandemic. Local political leaders visited the grieving family on Saturday. One leader said, “He was a bright student who had contributed significantly to creative projects in tribal areas. The party will ensure a thorough investigation into this incident.”
Police are examining all possibilities, including whether the man was under any mental stress before taking this tragic step, said the SHO.
