Supreme Court Constitutes 5-Member Panel to Address Farmers' Issues and Remove Barricading at Shambhu Border

The Supreme Court has constituted a 5-member panel headed by a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court to look into the MSP and other issues related to the concerns of farmers. Also, the Supreme Court has asked the panel to hold talks with the farmers to remove the barricading at Shambhu Border. The Supreme Court asked the farmers to refrain from politicizing their movement. Also said that do not make completely unreasonable demands in your meetings with the panel constituted by the court.
The Supreme Court urged the committee to contact the agitating farmers and request them to remove their tractor-trolleys etc. from the Shambhu Border on the National Highway so that the general public can get relief.
The court also said that the protesters have the freedom to shift their movement to an alternative site marked by the authorities.
The bench warned the farmers to stay away from political parties and said that the farmers' protest should not be politicized. The bench said that a large population of the farming community in both states belong to marginalized communities and are living below the poverty line and deserve sympathy.
Therefore, the bench said that they felt that a neutral committee should be formed to consider their issues.
The chairman of the committee constituted by the Supreme Court is Justice Nawab Singh, a former judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Its members include former Director General of Haryana and retired IPS PS Sandhu, Professor Devendra Sharma at GNT Amritsar and agricultural economist Dr Sukhpal Singh.
