Tejashwi Yadav Elected RJD Legislature Party Leader Amid Allegations of EVM Tampering

The newly elected RJD MLAs in Bihar on Monday unanimously elected Tejashwi Yadav as the Legislature Party Leader, authorising him to take all major decisions.

Three days after suffering a heavy defeat in the Assembly polls, the RJD held its first review meeting during the day, with its leaders alleging that the EVMs had been tampered with.

The RJD won only 25 seats in this election, the minimum required to claim the post of Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly.

Tejashwi was the only candidate for the Legislature Party leader's post.

Party President Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi, and MP Misa Bharti attended the meeting. Several senior leaders, including former state president Jagdanand Singh, Surajbhan Singh, Bhai Virendra, newly elected MLAs, and party candidates who lost the assembly election, were also present.

The presence of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi underscored the party's acceptance that Tejashwi Yadav will shape the political voice and direction of the RJD in the days ahead, despite the party's poor performance in the recent polls. He will not only lead the party in the Assembly but will also have the final say on decisions related to alliances, organisation, and overall strategy.

After the meeting, several party leaders said the forthcoming political fight is against EVMs, arguing that the party has won elections conducted with ballot papers but lost when EVMs were used.

Rejecting suggestions that the RJD lacked public support, party leaders cited the vote-share figures, stating that the 1.80 crore votes received by the party clearly showed strong public backing.

Former RJD state president Jagdanand Singh levelled a major allegation, claiming that each EVM "already contained 25,000 votes." "We are fortunate that 25 of our MLAs managed to win despite malpractice on such a large scale," he said.

Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, former MLA from Parbatta, said the results were shocking and could not have been possible "without some setting." "People are saying this is the victory of Nitish Kumar's development work. I, too, carried out significant development work in my area, yet I lost," he said.

He blamed "EVM setting" for his defeat, and alleged that the results would not have been possible without manipulation.

RJD leaders also questioned the victory margins of their winning candidates, noting that many of the 25 MLAs were expected to win by more than 50,000 votes but ended up winning by only 10,000–11,000 votes.
