The projects, backed by Nitish Kumar’s vision, earn recognition for engineering excellence, cultural significance, and boosting tourism in the state.

Bapu Tower, Patna, and the Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Smriti Stupa, Vaishali, constructed by the Building Construction Department, have been selected for the 17th CIDC Vishwakarma Awards 2026. This selection has been made in the Best Construction Projects category. This achievement brings national and international recognition to the department's projects of excellent construction quality, engineering prowess, and cultural significance.
Expressing his delight at this achievement, Mr. Kumar Ravi, Secretary of the Building Construction Department, said, "It is a moment of great pride for the department that Bapu Tower and Smriti Stupa have been selected for the Vishwakarma Award." This achievement is the result of the hard work, technical excellence, and dedication of the engineers, architects, and construction team.
He stated that the Building Construction Department is constantly setting new benchmarks in architecture and building design, establishing a new identity for Bihar before the nation and the world. Previously, the department's significant constructions, the Samrat Ashok Convention Center, Patna, and the Anjuman Islamia Hall, have received the Vishwakarma Award.
Honorable Chief Minister Shri Nitish Kumar has consistently strived to develop modern infrastructure in Bihar while preserving its historical and cultural heritage. The selection of Bapu Tower and Smriti Stupa for the Vishwakarma Award is an excellent testament to his vision and dedication. These projects are elevating Bihar's tourism and cultural prestige to new heights.
The Bapu Tower, dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in Gardanibagh, Patna, vividly depicts Gandhiji's legacy through audio-visuals, murals, sculptures, and short films. Mahatma Gandhi's life journey, principles, and his connection to Bihar are vividly displayed in the museum using modern technology. Bapu Tower is not only a tourist attraction but also a center of education for youth and students. This museum is taking tourism to new heights.
The Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum and Smriti Stupa, built on a 72-acre plot in Vaishali to preserve the relics of Lord Buddha and for Buddhists to visit, are a remarkable achievement of the Building Construction Department. This magnificent stupa, which preserves and promotes the ancient Buddhist heritage of Vaishali, has become a new hub for Buddhist pilgrims from India and abroad. Built from sandstone from Vanshi Paharpur in Rajasthan, the stupa has been built with modern technologies to ensure its earthquake-resistant capabilities. The stupa's basic structure will remain intact for thousands of years. It also includes a museum block, library, visitor center, amphitheater, and other modern facilities. Inaugurated in July 2025, the project is promoting tourism development and Buddhist culture.
