Thiruvananthapuram Airport Wins Platinum Award for National Energy Management Excellence

Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has been honoured with the Platinum Award in the SEEM National Energy Management Awards 2024, marking a major milestone in its sustained efforts to advance energy conservation, efficiency, and sustainable airport operations.
The accolade follows the airport's Gold Award in 2023, highlighting its continuous progress in innovation, performance optimization, and environmental stewardship.
The Platinum recognition was awarded based on the successful implementation of several impactful initiatives. These include optimised monitoring and maintenance of the 500 kW rooftop solar plant, enabling enhanced clean energy generation; regular and comprehensive energy audits that support targeted improvements; and the installation of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) in the main chiller system, replacing traditional Star/Delta starters and delivering significant power savings.
The airport has also upgraded motors from IE1 and IE2 to IE4 (Super Premium Efficiency) in line with international standards, reduced operational costs through lower power consumption, converted perimeter lighting to solar power, implemented micro-level power consumption monitoring for data-driven decision-making, and carried out system-wide upgrades across key utilities to improve reliability and overall efficiency.
These initiatives, which span power systems, terminal operations, and multiple airport facilities, reflect a holistic approach to energy management.
Officials noted that the award is a testament to the dedication, technical expertise, and collaborative efforts of the entire airport team.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening sustainable aviation practices and advancing initiatives that enhance energy performance and environmental responsibility.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV) is operated by TRV (Kerala) International Airport Limited (TIAL), a special purpose vehicle under Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), the airport business arm of Adani Enterprises.
Strategically located at the southern tip of India, the airport currently spans 237 hectares (586 acres) and has the capacity to handle 4.5 million passengers per annum (MPPA) and 25,000 metric tonnes of cargo annually.
A comprehensive development masterplan is underway to scale capacity to 27 million passengers per annum. Once completed, the airport will feature world-class terminal infrastructure, advanced cargo handling systems, and eco-friendly, energy-efficient facilities.
TRV is envisioned as a Greentech airport integrating renewable energy, green building practices, and sustainable operational systems.
TIAL reiterated that it remains committed to setting new benchmarks in operational efficiency, environmental sustainability, and passenger satisfaction.
With its modern infrastructure, strategic location, and ambitious development roadmap, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is poised to emerge as a leading gateway in the region and a significant player in global aviation.
