UMSAS Trains 400 Artisans Annually in 18 Traditional Crafts While Supporting 1.24 Lakh PM Vishwakarma Applications

Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan (UMSAS), which preserves and promotes the rich artistic traditions of Bihar, has today become the main custodian of the preservation and promotion of the traditional crafts and handicrafts of the state. This institute is acting as a bridge between the past and the future, connecting the cultural heritage of Bihar with contemporary times.

The aim of the institute is not just to preserve art, but to create a sustainable and strong ecosystem for artisans and craftsmen. This includes skill development, innovation, market access and cultural preservation strategies. Through its various initiatives, UMSAS has created a sustainable and strong ecosystem for artisans and craftsmen, so that they can adapt to the demands of the modern market while keeping their traditional art alive.

400 trainees get skill training every year

Under the comprehensive training programs conducted by UMSAS, six-month skill training is given in 18 crafts in two sessions every year. About 400 trainees benefit from this. Through these trainings, not only traditional art is preserved, but it is also proving helpful in preparing craftsmen according to the demands of the modern market.

Participation of Umsas in Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana

The institute is also playing an important role in the successful implementation of Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma Yojana. Under the scheme, the institute has organized special training programs in pottery art, sculpture and sewing. The proof of the success of the scheme is that so far 1,24,000 applications from Bihar have received recommendations from Stage 2 to Stage 3.
