UNESCO Declares Lucknow a Creative City of Gastronomy; PM Modi Hails Recognition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded UNESCO’s decision to designate Lucknow as a Creative City of Gastronomy, calling it a proud moment that highlights the city’s rich culinary heritage and vibrant cultural legacy.

In a message on X, PM Modi today invited people from across the globe to experience Lucknow’s unique and flavorful traditions.

“Lucknow is synonymous with a vibrant culture, at the core of which is a great culinary culture. I am glad that UNESCO has recognised this aspect of Lucknow and I call upon people from around the world to visit Lucknow and discover its uniqueness,” PM Modi said.

Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also welcomed the recognition, saying it celebrates Lucknow’s “distinguished culinary heritage and invaluable contribution to India’s rich gastronomic traditions.”

“Lucknow has been designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy, a recognition of its distinguished culinary heritage and invaluable contribution to India’s rich gastronomic traditions,” he said.

Famed for its Nawabi cuisine, including iconic kebabs, pulaos, Lakhnawi kulchas, shahi tukras and other sweets, Lucknow has long been celebrated as a gastronomic treasure. The UNESCO honor not only acknowledges this legacy but also aims to promote sustainable food culture and enhance tourism.

This recognition places Lucknow among an elite global network of cities known for their culinary innovation and tradition, boosting its stature on the world stage.
