Vijay Warns CM Stalin: “Do Anything to Me, But Don’t Target My Supporters” After Karur Stampede

Actor-politician Vijay has issued a strong warning to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, urging him not to target his party members and supporters following the tragic stampede at his election rally in Karur. The stampede, which took place on September 27 during Vijay’s campaign, claimed the lives of 41 people and left many others injured.
The controversy deepened after the police arrested two key members of Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) — Karur West District Secretary Mathiyazhagan and Karur town functionary Paun Raj. In a heartfelt video message shared on TVK’s official social media, Vijay expressed deep pain over the ongoing situation and appealed to Stalin directly. He said that if the Chief Minister seeks revenge, he should take it out on him personally, but not on his friends, supporters, or party members. “I will be at home or at the office, do whatever you want to me,” Vijay said firmly.
Vijay emphasized his concern for the safety of his supporters, stating that their wellbeing always comes before any political ambition. He also extended his condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the tragedy and prayed for the quick recovery of those still hospitalized. He maintained that his party and its members had followed all rules during the rally and that any wrongdoing accusations were unfair. “All the truth will come out soon,” he added.
Meanwhile, the ruling DMK has criticized Vijay and his party. DMK MP A Raja suggested that Vijay’s quick departure from Karur after the stampede indicated guilt. The Stalin-led government also released video footage allegedly showing TVK supporters violating safety norms, including climbing on rooftops at another event in Namakkal. They further questioned the choice of Karur Roundana as the rally venue, pointing out safety hazards like a nearby petrol bunk and drainage canal, and denied suspending power during the event.
Following the arrests, Paun Raj was remanded to judicial custody until October 14. Police also detained a YouTuber and a journalist linked to the incident. FIRs filed against three senior TVK leaders include serious charges such as culpable homicide and endangering lives.
While no case has been registered against Vijay himself, the ongoing investigation highlights the complexities and tensions surrounding the tragic Karur stampede and its aftermath.
